Bog plants pond

Swamp plants, as the name implies, are plants that are in a swamp area. This means that these plants like to have wet roots.

Marsh plants purify and filter the water in ponds. By placing these grass- and reed-like plants, you ensure that the pond is complete. Thanks to their strong root systems, marsh plants grow quickly and root themselves firmly into the pond bottom, from which they get their nutrition. In addition, marsh plants are hardy. Hardy means that they can survive in cold weather with frost and do not require covering.

Which bog plants are best to place? In our assortment you will find the most popular and best working marsh plants. For example, choose the hardy yellow lis with a graceful appearance because of its yellow flowers. With more than 15 species of marsh plants to choose from, you can decorate your pond entirely to your taste.

Maintain hardy marsh plants in the pond

Overgrowth with marsh plants requires maintenance so that they continue to do their job properly and do not become feral. In the fall, the biggest pruning takes place and you remove excess growth from the pond. During pruning, you cut away dead parts of the plant. Remaining roots and leaves grow back in the spring because the nutrients remain stored in the roots.

Because of the hardy property of bog plants, covering the pond is not necessary during the winter period. Do you want to prevent falling leaves from entering the pond during the fall? Then place a net over the pond that catches the leaves.

How do you plant the most beautiful native marsh plants?

Marsh plants are placed in addition to their purifying effect, also because they are so suitable as finishing touches to the pond edge. Right next to the pond edge, the wet bank, or marsh area, begins where these pond plants are placed. In this section, the plants can function best. In order for marsh plants to root well and stay wet, the soil should consist of wet soil or pond substrate. Just be careful not to place them too deep in the pond, or the marsh plants will drown and not survive.

For example, marsh plant water mint, which grows about 60 cm high and can be planted in a depth of up to -20 cm. At this depth, we recommend placing water plants in pond baskets, in order to keep plant growth in check. After filling a pond basket with your favorite marsh plant, simply place it at the appropriate depth in the marsh area.
