Combating floating algae in your pond? You can recognize floating algae in the pond to a green discoloration of the water. These single-celled organisms float through the water making the water cloudy.How do you make sure you don't suffer from floating algae?
- Ensure sufficient oxygen plants in the pond
- Use the right pond substrate
- Place aquatic plants that release CO2 such as water lilies and marsh plants
- Use pond planting clay. The extra minerals in the clay will increase water hardness.
Fortunately, when the damage has already been done and floating algae threatens to take over the pond, there are tools to combat these algae.
In this case, the use of a Pond Block is very effective. When using Pond Blocks (1 per 1,000 liters of water) the pond is free of algae after 10 days. Pond Blocks are not harmful to the plants and animals in the pond and very easy to use.
